About Our Guru

Surabhi Aswin Kumar is a vibrant force in the world of Indian fine arts, with nearly 20 years of soulful dedication to Carnatic music and Bharatanatyam. Her journey began early at just 7 years old, she stepped into the world of Bharatanatyam under Vid. Smt. Mrudula Rai and later under the legendary Dr. Padma Subrahmanyam, completing the prestigious Praveshika Special Course at Nrityodaya, Chennai. Since then, she’s lit up stages like Chennaiyil Thiruvaiyaru, Polimer Channel, Nrityakadambini, etc. with her graceful performances.


Her love for music blossomed at age 8, guided by revered gurus Ms. Radhika Muthukrishnan, Mrs. Padmini and Mrs. Srimathi Gurumurthy. With a B.A. in Music from Tamil Nadu Government Music College and a Teacher Training Degree from Coimbatore, Surabhi brings both academic depth and artistic flair to her craft. She has given many katcheri's & lit up stages like Madhinirai Margazhi, Maha Shivaratri, Ram Navami Programme & many more with her graceful performances.


In 2019, she founded Surabhi’s Music & Dance Academy (SMDA), a space where tradition meets heart. Today, she mentors over 20 students across India, the USA, Gabon, Australia, UK, Canada, etc. helping them grow through the Bridge Academy’s 8-level grading system in both Carnatic music and Bharatanatyam.


Surabhi’s teaching style is personal, thoughtful and rooted in the belief that classical arts can transform lives. Her small-group batches (max 5 students) and one-on-one sessions ensure every learner gets the attention they deserve. With over two decades of learning and six years of teaching, she’s not just passing on technique—she’s nurturing confidence, discipline and a deep connection to Indian culture.
